The mission of Origins is to promote an equitable and humane multicultural society through quality education for all. Established in 1979, Origins is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, the Midwest regional center for the Responsive Classroom approach, K-6, and the sole provider of the Developmental Designs approach, 5-9.

Today, Origins employs about fifteen people full-time, plus over 60 certified workshop presenters. We offer workshops for teachers and consulting services for schools and districts. We also publish award-winning books, DVDs, and resources for school-based study groups.
