Introductory, In-depth, Follow-up Workshops
Purpose
All Developmental Designs workshops can be held at your school site. On-site workshops provide schools with the opportunity to share training across the staff and integrate specific school concerns into the topics and questions addressed in the workshops.
Process
Overviews
In the 90-minute Overview, you learn about the philosophy and practices of the approach, experience aspect of community-building practices, and ask clarifying questions. Overviews provide schools with a common understanding for considering if the approach suits with their needs and goals.
Developmental Designs Overview
This 90-minute, on-site presentation will give your school an introduction to the philosophy and practices of the approach, providing enough information
to begin the conversation of whether or not the Developmental Designs approach is a good fit for the school.
The Overview is presented on-site to your entire school staff or a smaller group of teachers and school leaders who are investigating the Developmental Designs approach. You will be able to ask specific questions about how the implementation of the Developmental Designs approach might look in your school, including how using advisory can help your students feel more connected to school.
If the school location requires an overnight stay for the Origins facilitator, we recommend scheduling a one-day Sampler.
Introductory Workshop
The Developmental Designs Sampler, an introductory one-day workshop, provides an overview of the approach and how it can be used to increase
student learning while reducing problem behaviors. We present Samplers every fall and spring at locations throughout the
country, as well as on-site in schools and districts.
In-Depth Training
For schools interested in pursuing in-depth training for middle-level staff,
our week-long institutes, Developmental Designs 1 and
Developmental Designs 2, are the core workshops. We present these
workshops in locations nationwide each summer; we also offer them on-site
for schools and districts. On-site trainings for groups of up to 30 participants
can be divided into several sessions and presented over the course of up to
three months.
Follow-up Workshops
Once a core group of educators in a school have completed the
first level of training, Developmental Designs 1,
we offer Responding to
Rule Breaking, an on-site follow-up workshops to support your implementation.
Additional follow-up workshops are available at your school site.
Consulting Teachers
Consulting teachers who provide on-site workshops and staff meeting support have all successfully used the strategies they teach and demonstrate. They have been extensively trained and are nationally certified to facilitate Responsive Classroom and/or Developmental Designs workshops, and are skilled in helping educators reach their goals.
