Technology-assisted Assessment
Purpose
Teachers use phone or Skype conversations to help with problem-solving and to share feedback from implementation surveys and recordings of their classroom practices. These electronic tools facilitate effective and economical coaching.
Process
Surveys
After implementing what they have learned in Developmental Designs workshops, teachers take surveys on their implementation of the practices and discuss the results with a consulting teacher. Together they facilitate a plan for professional growth.
Recordings
Teachers make audio or video recordings of their classrooms in action. After reviewing the recordings with the help of an observation tool, they send the recording and their observations to their consulting teacher/coach. After the coach has reviewed the recording and teacher comments, the teacher and coach debrief the recording and the process by phone or Skype, and together choose another practice for recording and study.

Teachers discuss their practices with a consulting teacher. They ask questions, pose problems, and solicit feedback on a variety of classroom issues, social and academic.

Technology-assisted coaching may be supplemented with on-site visits to the classroom to provide additional perspective on classroom practices, and to build relationship between teachers and their coaches.
Consulting Teachers
Consulting teachers who use technology to assist teachers have the same qualifications and are usually the same people as Origins on-site coaches. They have all successfully used in their own classrooms the strategies they teach and demonstrate. They have been extensively trained and are nationally certified to facilitate Developmental Designs workshops, and are skilled in helping educators reach their goals.
